The Sugar Cycle
Today may be National Candy Day, but we're here to tell you why you should RESIST THE SUGAR CYCLE and don't eat all that Halloween Candy.
🍭 Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy.
🍭 Your body breaks down most of the food you eat into sugar (glucose) and releases it into your bloodstream. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy.
🍭 With diabetes, your body doesn’t make enough—or any—insulin or doesn’t use insulin well. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells. Over time, that can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease.
This is why monitoring your diet and sugar intake is so important to prevent and manage Diabetes.
